TEFL Course in East London

" You don't need magic to disappear.. All you need is a destination.. "

East London is a coastal town located on the Indian Ocean, in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. It’s known for its beaches, friendly locals and gorgeous climate. East London is one of the most laid back cities in sunny South Africa. If you are someone that loves the sun and surf, this is the place to be. While modest in size, East London has all of the amenities that you will need to teach online, operate as a digital nomad passing through or volunteer for a teaching position.

Our training center is in Gonubie, a small seaside village on the outskirts of East London! Surrounded by tranquil gardens, the school is close to all major routes, roads, attractions and amenities. There are outdoor adventures, sightseeing, shopping, safaris and socials to refuel and recharge.

We offer smaller classes (maximum 10 students) for more individualized attention and care for each student. All our teachers are experienced, iTTi-certified teacher trainers. They are friendly, knowledgeable individuals who are dedicated to providing the best experience and education to their students.

South Africa is so varied and complex, you could never hope to understand it by just visiting for a week or two. To really get to know the rhythm and beating heart of this country, you have to live there. It’s fair to say that South Africa is the nation Nelson Mandela built: a multicultural mix of languages, traditions, and history. While it’s a country of beautiful national parks and subtropical forests, it’s also a country with deep problems. However, don’t be put off by the problems. Being a teacher in South Africa will be one you’ll remember the rest of your life. East London is a small sunny coastal town in the East Cape on the South East Coast of the country. With breath-taking scenery, wildlife aplenty, adventure to the extreme and the warmest hospitality! There is hardly a place one cannot see the sparkling Indian Ocean as it rolls onto its sandy golden shores.

With a diverse culture and unique people, it is an experience of a lifetime! Because it is a predominantly English-speaking city, there aren’t abundant teaching opportunities, but, just as most of TESOL graduates do, many people teach online from their homes in our beautiful city. Although, students situated in underprivileged communities are often located in rural areas that do not have access to the same opportunities as urban communities. There is a demand for volunteer teachers to assist students within these rural areas. Foreign teachers with special skills such as mathematics, science and technology are always in demand. Our TEFL students love the organic feel of East London, almost untouched by the general rushed feel of other cities. If you are looking to enjoy beauty, friendly people and a peaceful environment, then East London is for you.

Teach Online

Internet access has become a readily available resource all around town. Here are just a few options when it comes to making this city your online teaching hub:

  • Operate from communal workspaces
  • Enjoy the outdoors sitting at one of our beach cafés
  • Work from public libraries
  • Take advantage of your accommodation’s inclusive wifi and work from home
  • Grab a cup of coffee at one of the many cafes while you plan lessons, provide lessons and manage your schedule.

The terrific thing about teaching online is getting to work from anywhere, and East London offers numerous spots that you can take advantage of if you are looking for a change of scenery.

    Classroom Teaching
East London may not be rife with in-class teaching positions, but as a bustling town filled with numerous learning institutions, voluntary teaching positions are rife for the valued experience. Many schools require a teaching degree to participate in classroom teaching. However, if you have a bachelor’s degree in teaching on top of your TEFL certification, then this is a lovely place to teach, with plenty of schools to choose from.

If you love taking care of little ones, there are plenty of daycare organisations that are looking for passionate carers just like you.

If you are in the market for an in-person teaching position, we recommend taking a look at job boards for au pair positions and tutoring opportunities for children of which there are plenty.

As the perfect laidback environment to work in, East London is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of bigger cities, but there is beauty in taking a breath and living in the now.

Overall, East London is a great place to learn something new. With peaceful surroundings and the time to focus on your new craft, we highly recommend this gorgeous town as your learning hub for your TESOL certification.
