WHY TAKE A TESOL TEFL IN Yerevan

Much of Armenia’s cultural heritage centers around its status as the earliest nation to adopt Christianity; in fact, local tradition states that Armenians are descendants of Noah’s grandchildren. As such, visits to ancient monasteries as well as the world’s oldest national church are on most visitors’ itineraries. Armenian diaspora makes up the largest percentage of visitors to the country, and despite many difficulties throughout history, locals are welcoming of visitors from abroad.

Armenia is a tiny country that is often forgotten by travelers due to it being tucked away behind Turkey and its more popular neighbor, Georgia. It’s an ancient, mystical land–a country that is still unspoiled by the crowds of mass tourism. And whether you’re a lover of rolling hills, or prefer climbing over snow-capped peaks, you’ll find what you’re looking for in the Armenian landscape. It’s a paradise for outdoor lovers. To seal the deal: it’s incredibly inexpensive making it a perfect destination for budget travelers, backpackers and, of course, TEFL students!!!!!!! If you still hesitate whether to travel to Armenia, think of some reasons:

  • Find serenity and peace in your soul by visiting the spiritual centers such as the monasteries.
  • Ride the Wings of Tatev, the longest cable car in the world, to the monastery with the same name that is hidden in a beautiful mountain area.
  • Visit the Armenian “Stonehenge.”
  • Get acquainted with some of the most warmhearted people in the world—Armenians.
  • Our tefl Yerevan institute

iTTi TEFL Armenia is situated in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. This is the ancient city, located in the mountainous area. It offers a view of the Biblical Mount Ararat, covered with a snow hat. Founded in 782 BC, one of the most alluring cities in the world, Yerevan is the extraordinary place where modern and ancient cultures interlace in an inconceivable way. Modern architectural solutions tower alongside the comfy and squat buildings with humility and bliss.

Our language center occupies a comfortable space downtown Yerevan. Cozy, well-lit classrooms, equipped with all necessary facilities for teaching and learning, set up a favorable mood. Coffee and tea are available throughout the training. Our center has an informal, friendly atmosphere and features different language courses: German, Russian, and English for children and adults; summer school for kids; preschool classes, and teacher training courses.

Our TEFL classes run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with an hour lunch in between from Monday through Thursday, and students have to set aside study time from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Fridays. The teaching practicum with Armenian students starts in Week 2 of the program.

We have an outstanding teaching staff and tutorial system. Students meet tutors each week and have lively discussions about the subject they are studying.

Our TEFL trainers hold an MA in English and obtained TEFL experience in various private and state institutions in Armenia. iTTi TEFL trainers are successful, confident and inspirational teaching professionals. They receive a comprehensive training program on how to deliver the TEFL certification course. This way, the same quality program is guaranteed wherever in the world you study. We inspire people all over the world to travel and teach, discover the world, learn about different cultures, find themselves.

WORKING AS AN ENGLISH TEACHER IN ARMENIA

Working as an English teacher in Armenia offers a unique and fulfilling experience, blending a rich cultural heritage with a growing demand for English language education. Here’s a comprehensive overview of what to expect:

    Opportunities for Teaching English
Armenia presents a variety of opportunities for English teachers, driven by the increasing importance of English in business, tourism, and international relations. Positions are available in public schools, private language centers, international schools, and universities.

    Types of Schools in Armenia
    1. Public Schools: These schools offer English as part of the standard curriculum. Opportunities here are often part-time or contract based.
    2. Private Language Centers: These institutions cater to students of all ages, focusing on improving their English for academic, professional, or personal reasons. Flexible schedules, including evening and weekend classes, are common.
    3. International Schools: These schools follow international curricula (e.g., British, American) and primarily serve expatriate families and local families seeking a global education.
    4. Universities: Higher education institutions often seek qualified English instructors for both general English courses and specialized fields such as English literature or linguistics.

    Educational Requirements for Teachers
To teach English in Armenia, teachers generally need a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Education, or a related field. Additionally, a TEFL/TESOL certification is usually required. Previous teaching experience is highly valued and can be a significant advantage in securing a position.

    School Year Dates
The school year in Armenia typically runs from September to June, with breaks for holidays and national observances. The exact dates can vary slightly depending on the institution and level of education.

    Salary and Benefits

Salary: English teachers in Armenia can expect to earn a moderate salary, with the exact amount varying based on the type of school, location, and the teacher’s qualifications and experience. Salaries in private language centers and international schools are generally higher than those in public institutions.
The average salary for English teachers in Armenia is US$1,350 per month. Salaries for EFL teachers in Armenia are dependent on the qualifications and years of experience and usually range from US $700 to US $1,550 per month, although schools may pay per hour. A teacher in Armenia with over five years of teaching experience and a master’s degree can earn more than two times more than an inexperienced teacher with a bachelor’s degree. As the cost of living is very low in Armenia (US$300 – US$500), teachers enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and are able to save.

Paid Vacation: Teachers usually receive paid vacation time, including national holidays and school breaks. This often includes several weeks off during the summer and shorter breaks during the winter and spring.

Holidays: National holidays in Armenia include New Year’s Day, Christmas (celebrated on January 6th), International Women’s Day, Genocide Remembrance Day, and Independence Day. Schools typically observe these holidays, providing time off for teachers and students.

Health Insurance: Some schools offer health insurance as part of the employment package, which can include coverage for medical expenses. However, this benefit is more commonly found in private and international schools.

Airfare Compensation: Airfare compensation is not a standard benefit, but some international schools and private language centers may offer it as part of their employment package, either by reimbursing the cost of flights or providing an annual travel allowance.

Housing Allowance: Housing allowances are not universally provided but can be included in the benefits package, especially for positions at international schools and some private language centers. This can significantly reduce living expenses and help teachers settle into their new environment more easily.

Teaching English in Armenia is a rewarding career choice that offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on students’ lives while experiencing a rich cultural environment. With competitive salaries and a range of benefits, it provides a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.
