Meet Our iTTi TEFL North Cyprus Team
Ahmad Fawzi Shamsi is a faculty member at Eastern Mediterranean University’s Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School, specializing in English Language Teaching. He holds a PhD in the field, with research interests primarily in publication literacy, technology-enhanced teaching, multilingualism, and education in emergency contexts. In addition, he holds a Train the Trainer (TOT) certification and has conducted multiple teacher training sessions in Syria, Turkiye, and Sudan.
Dr. Shamsi’s 18-year professional journey reflects his belief that research and practice should be closely integrated. During the first eight years of his career, he focused on teaching English to teenagers and adults to refine his practical teaching skills. He then transitioned into academia as a researcher and lecturer. Since then, he has authored several articles, participated in numerous conferences, and provided extensive training for teachers. He has also mentored numerous MA and PhD students, guiding them through their academic research and development.

She has held professorial positions at leading universities and has greatly enriched the field through her extensive research. Her areas of expertise include language teacher education, the integration of technology in teaching, and innovative pedagogical methodologies.
Dr. Vanci Osam has published numerous articles in prestigious international journals, addressing contemporary issues in teaching English as a foreign and second language. She has also been instrumental in mentoring the next generation of scholars, supervising a wide range of Master’s and Doctoral dissertations on diverse topics within the field. Many of her students have advanced to prominent academic and administrative roles worldwide under her guidance.
In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Vanci Osam has held several high-ranking administrative positions at Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus, including Acting Rector, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, and Dean of the Faculty of Education. Currently, she serves as an emeritus professor in the 4-year TESOL teacher education program at the same institution, where she provides teacher training and professional guidance to support the development of future educators.

I am an experienced English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teacher and mentor with over 20 years of experience as a TESOL educator, having served in both lecturer and trainer roles. My expertise lies in EAP and English-Medium Instruction (EMI) research within higher education. Currently, I work as a Consultant Trainer at the Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE), where I tutor courses in Teaching EAP (TEAP) and EMI. In addition, I lecture part-time in the TESOL teacher education program at Eastern Mediterranean University. I also remotely supervise theses for the MA in Professional Development in Language Education (MAPDLE) program, a joint initiative between NILE and the University of Chichester.

Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam is a renowned Applied Linguist and Sociolinguist with over 30 years of experience in English Language Teaching (ELT). His extensive career has significantly impacted several fields, including language teaching, English Medium Instruction (EMI), language policy, gender and language teaching, and learner attitudes.
Prof. Osam has made substantial contributions through numerous articles, book chapters, and a comprehensive dictionary in Applied Linguistics and Testing. In Sociolinguistics, his research has focused on the linguistic dynamics of Cyprus. Notably, in 2006, he served as guest editor for the International Journal of the Sociology of Language by Mouton De Gruyter, dedicating an entire issue to language issues in northern Cyprus. His recent research includes supervising MA theses on native-speakerism, Kurdish students’ attitudes toward native and non-native teachers, and Tanzanian perceptions of Swahili and English.
His supervision of PhD dissertations covers a broad range of critical topics in language education, such as the role of identity in teaching, educator effectiveness, the implementation of EMI in higher education, and the teaching of less commonly taught languages. His research also examines the status of English in various sociopolitical contexts, including Iran, highlighting its global significance. Currently, Prof. Osam is an Emeritus Professor in the four-year TESOL teacher education program at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). His academic leadership extends beyond teaching, as he has held several prominent administrative roles, including multiple terms as Head of the English Language Teaching Department, two terms as Dean of the Faculty of Education, and six years as Rector at a prestigious university. Since 2018, he has been a member and Councillor at the Community of Mediterranean Universities.
Outside of academia, Prof. Osam is a dedicated advocate for animal welfare, actively supporting organizations focused on improving the lives of stray animals. He is also an enthusiastic sailor, having crossed the Mediterranean Sea on numerous occasions. Additionally, he is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Profedd, a company specializing in Professional Education and Development.

How to Apply for a TESOL Course
Step 1
To begin the admission process for iTTi North Cyprus, you must first choose your start date, complete the online application form, and pay a deposit of USD $500.
Step 2
An iTTi Enrollment Counselor will then contact you with instructions on how to complete the required English proficiency assessment test. If you are a non-native speaker, you must obtain a B2/C1 level. A certificate will be provided by the iTTi School of English upon request.
Step 3
Once you are notified of your acceptance into iTTi North Cyprus your remaining tuition balance is due 30 days prior to your course start date.
