WHY TAKE A TESOL/TEFL COURSE IN PARIS

A visitor to the wonderful “City of Light,” as it is lovingly called, has sheer unlimited tourist attractions to view, and most of them are in walking distance around the city center.

One of the city’s most popular places is the Pompidou Centre. This is a must-visit place for the art lover.

The boulevard Champs-Elysees, the hub of high culture, represents the style of Paris. Extending from the Arc de Triomphe, the area is lined with chic restaurants, shops and exclusive boutiques.

Amongst the new attractions is the neighborhood in and around the ruins of the Bastille prison which has been transformed into a hub of Parisian nightlife. Here, one finds a range of popular café joints, restaurants, and clubs apart from the Opera Bastille.

Paris is a city with over a thousand years of history and a rich cultural heritage. Who doesn’t remember the immortal hunchback of Notre Dame or the musketeers who fascinated people around the world in movies? Just imagine visiting Versailles—a place not accessible to the general public during the time of Luis XIV. The beauty of Paris’ architecture and its artistic development is a delight for one and all.

WORK IN PARIS (OR FRANCE) AS A TEFL TEACHER

With Paris being the No. 1 tourist location in the world, it is understandable that France, in general, is a dream destination for many people. Teaching English provides for one way of making a living here and a way of making new friends. A 120-Hour TEFL or TESOL Certificate in your pocket is the minimum qualification you need to get started. And the good news is that, apart from Paris and some Mediterranean locations, most of France is still FAR from being overrun by TEFL teachers. English-teaching jobs are available everywhere.

In many countries, advanced qualifications are required to enter schools; the French, however, are more likely to hire native-like English-speaking teachers based on other credentials. While it is wise to be able to put a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate on the table, advanced degrees are not required. A Bachelor’s Degree in almost any subject and some teaching skills will take you a long way to a rewarding teaching position.

What type of work is out there? How much will I get paid? Well, Business English still seems to be No. 1. “Young Learners” are on the up in France. Teaching teenager groups after school will probably take off soon, as it did in Spain in the 90s. Although you can work a few hours while holding a student visa, this should not be considered as the only way of supporting yourself.

If you plan on staying in France for an extended period, you are well advised to apply for a work visa. Obtaining a work visa requires finding an organization that is willing to sponsor you throughout the process. As a contracted teacher, you will make between 1,400 – 1,800 Euros per month. It has become possible for U.S. citizens to teach legally in France with certain prerequisites. Please ask the center for more information.

Teaching English in France is also possible at the private level. If you are not interested in working for a school, college, or a corporation, consider teaching private lessons. As a private teacher in people’s homes, you can expect to earn about 15-20 Euros per session. If you are planning on staying in France, it can be a great way to supplement your income. The training center can help in setting this up. Teaching over the telephone has become particularly popular in France. It offers teachers the opportunity to even work while living in another country.

If you are interested in the French culture and know French to some extent, teaching English in France can be a great way to make a living. You need to do some homework before embarking on your adventure. It will take some effort, but it is very possible to make this your lifelong career and one of the most wonderful experiences in your life.
